Diving Into Art

When we started Annada, our aim was to share art with the world. We believe that sharing beauty and happiness comes in the form of colors, and happy art. Over the years, we have explored different types of art that we felt best represents the art scene of the Middle Eastern region, expresses our taste, and aligns with the fashion trends of that year or season.
Here are some styles of art that we have showcased at Annada:

-

-

1. Impressionism

This is a style we love here at Annada. The movement started in the early 1860s, France, with Claude Monet. It is characterized by small, short, quick brushstrokes that compose a single scene with an emphasis on depictions of light changes, movement and unfinished, sketch-like feel of modern life as a subject matter.

Artwork Examples On Impressionism

Example From Annada:
A Memory In Time by Abbas Almosawi

Annada was very much inspired by the artworks of Abbas, as he is one of the leading impressionists in the region.
We feature several pieces of his impressionistic art showing depictions of souks, villages, landscapes, seashores, and sometimes figures.

Other artists in Annada that are also impressionists or have used impressionism styles in their work are:

2. Expressionism

Expressionist art sought to draw from within the artist, using a distortion of form and strong colors, free brushwork, and highly-textured generous paint application. This art style tends to be emotional and sometimes mystical in a quest for authenticity. The roots of Expressionism can be traced back to Vincent van Gogh, and Edvard Munch.

Example From Annada:
Purple and Teal by Mariam Fakhro

Most of her artworks featured at Annada are exquisite works of expressionism.

3. Abstract Expressionism

Usually characterized by large abstract painted canvases, It describes a direct and highly dynamic kind of art breaking away from what was considered conventional, and instead using spontaneity and improvisation to create abstract works of art.

4. Cubism

Established in 1907 by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, who moved away from copying real life, this style is characterized by the radically fragmented abstract compositions. They developed a visual language of two-dimensional surfaces, geometric pieces, and multiple vantage points.

Example From Annada:
“Touk Al Hamama” and other artworks by Ebrahim Busaad showcase his own style of cubism that is sometimes paired with arabic calligraphy.

5. Contemporary Art - Digital

Digital art can be computer generated, scanned or drawn using a tablet and a mouse. In the 1990s, thanks to improvements in digital technology, giving artists a creative freedom to manipulate pieces of art into the final image. In recent years, digital art has become even more interactive, allowing the audience (this time) a certain amount of control over the final image.
