Successful Style Formula

What do Karl Lagerfeld, Steve Jobs, Hilary Clinton, and Carolina Herrera all have in common?

They are all extremely successful individuals in their respective industries,  and they all wear the same idea - every day, and believe it or not - these two things are actually linked.

It is said that we make approximately 35,000 decisions a day. The more decisions we make, the more taxing it is on our brain, and the less effective each decision becomes over time; an effect called decision making fatigue. The easiest way to combat this by eliminating decision making on known daily occurrences, such as what you wear, what you eat, or when to work out.

I was having a conversation with a friend who made a comment about liking how I dress, and that I wear my own version of a uniform. I did this completely unconsciously, but it got me thinking about why I chose to dress this way. I realized that I did not want an “extra” decision to make, going back to what I know works gives me comfort and confidence.

Having said that, I also believe that getting dressed should always be fun even if it is a daily task! Finding beauty in the monotonous will impact your mood, your performance, and confidence for that day. It doesn’t hurt to get a few compliments on your look either!

How Do I Do It?

The formula that works for me is; I have many of the same pieces in different colors as my foundation; I have a slight obsession with the Pleats Please line by Issey Miyaki. I know they suit my figure, and have a plethora of colors to choose from (color is something very important to me). This is almost always my base. I then pair an Annada scarf, Kimono Cardigan, switch out to Scarf Top, or throw on an Abaya as my finishing touch.

it’s still a uniform - but the added art piece can transform the way it looks instantly! The formula allows me to forego thinking about what to wear, but still gives me the pleasure of adding a finishing touch of art that brings me joy and confidence each morning! It has become my signature look.

Why Should You Do It?
  1. Save Your Time
Routine will set you free. Knowing ahead of time what your daily uniform looks like saves time in preparation, and makes your routine more efficient.

  2. Save Your Brain Power
Save your brainpower for making decisions that are more impactful than everyday routines, you will become a better decision maker, and avoid decision making fatigue

  3. Boost Your Confidence
There is power in knowing what works for you. Knowing that you look good in your uniform ensures you start the day feeling good about yourself.

  4. Create Predictability
The uniform eliminates the stress of thinking about what to wear each morning. It also allows you to prepare in advance as it is a predictable part of your daily routine.

  5. Save Your Money
Having a foundation of base pieces - means you can buy only what you love in quantity or different colors. This ensures you will not often be spending on clothing you may not enjoy.

The idea here is that I found a formula that works for me, one that maximizes the benefits of having a uniform, and gives me an abundance of possibilities. I look like the persona I want to embody for my daily life, and it takes less than 2 minutes of my day! I look and feel great and get compliments all the time!

I encourage you to create a similar formula that works for you. Find your foundation, and then add accessories that will freshen up and uplift your look.

Don’t be afraid to experiment, find the inspiration and beauty in your simple routines, and allow yourself to live in art.

Can’t wait to see your looks!

Lots of Love,
Nada Alawi
