Ghassan Mohsin

Ghassan Mohsin

Born in Nasiriyah, Iraq (1945 - 2017), Ghassan's early life was that of constant change of scenery. The son of an army officer, Ghassan's early years were spent in different parts of Iraq exposing the young artist to the different geographies, peoples, colors, and architecture of Iraq.

Joining the ministry of foreign affairs, Ghassan was able to work within a field that fed his love of travel, and hunger to experience other countries and cultures. While posted in New York in the 1970's Ghassan's artistic spirit emerged. New York's vibrant culture, art scene, museums, people, and architecture influenced Ghassan tremendously, propelling him to pick up a canvas and oil paints, and he started painting in a formal fashion.  His following position took him to Pakistan, where he was introduced to floral influences as well as the traditional art of the Indian Sub-Continent. His art was heavily influenced by his surroundings, this can be seen throughout his works.
